Financial Mastery Guide

Complete onboarding for Xpent & FinTrack. Turn your mobile device into a professional financial fortress.

💰 Core Financial Concepts

Asset Resources you own that have economic value. In the app, this includes your Bank Balance, Cash in wallet, and long-term Investments.
Liability Money you owe to others. This includes Credit Card outstanding, Bank Loans, and money borrowed from friends.
Networth The "Gold Standard" metric. Total Assets - Total Liabilities. It tells you your true wealth at any moment.
Income Any money entering your ecosystem (Salary, Dividends, Cash gifts).
Expense Money leaving your ecosystem to pay for goods or services (Rent, Food, Netflix).
Transfer Moving money between your own accounts. Critical: Transfers do NOT change your Networth.
Budget A target spending ceiling. You set these for categories (e.g., "$500 for Food") to prevent overspending.

🏗️ How the App is Structured

The app follows a 3-layer hierarchy to organize your world:

1. Major Head: The broadest category (e.g., Bank Accounts, Investments, Credit Cards).

2. Minor Head: A sub-group (e.g., Savings Accounts, Equity, Visa Cards).

3. Account (Micro Head): The specific entity (e.g., Chase Bank, Robinhood, Apple Card).

What happens when you record an entry?

Recording Income: The selected Account balance increases. Your Networth increases.
Recording Expense: The selected Account balance decreases. Your Networth decreases.
Recording Transfer: Source Account balance decreases; Destination Account balance increases. Networth remains unchanged.

🚀 Advanced Management

🤝 "On Account" - Informal Tracking

Use the On Account feature when money is in "limbo" with another party.

  • Scenario: You lend $100 to your friend Bob.
  • The Entry: Record a transfer from your Cash to Bob (On Account).
  • Relevance: Your cash is gone, but Bob owes you. Your Networth stays stable because Bob is now a "Receivable Asset".

💳 Credit Card Mastery

  • Billing Cycle: The duration (e.g., 1st to 30th) where your spends are tracked.
  • Due Date: The day you must pay the bank (e.g., 15th of next month).
  • Billed Amount: Spends already captured on your last statement.
  • Unbilled Amount: Spends since your last statement generated.

🏠 Loans & EMI

EMI (Equated Monthly Installment) is the fixed payment made to a lender.

  • The app calculates the Interest vs Principal split for every payment.
  • Interest Rate: The annual percentage the bank charges you.
  • Outstanding Balance: The actual principal remaining to be paid.

🤖 Smart Automation

Auto-Record Magic

Tired of manual entries? The app handles two types of automatic recording:

  1. Recurring Transfers/Subs: Set up a Subscription (e.g., Spotify). On the next due date, the app prompts or automatically records it.
  2. Loan EMIs: If "Auto-Record" is enabled on a loan, the app creates a transfer from your Bank to the Loan account on the due date, ensuring your balance is always accurate.

📊 Financial Insights

The app acts as a proactive advisor by providing:

🔒 Security & Sync Military Grade

Encryption at Rest

In Ultra Secure Mode, your entire database is encrypted using AES-256 before being written to disk. If your phone is stolen, the data is just random gibberish without your Master Password.

WebDAV & E2EE

E2EE (End-to-End Encryption) ensures that even the sync server cannot read your data.

To set up WebDAV Sync:

  1. Provide your WebDAV URL (from Nextcloud, Koofr, etc.).
  2. Input Username and Password.
  3. Set a Remote Master Password. This password generates the key that encrypts your file before it leaves the phone.

🛡️ Data Best Practices

The 3-2-1 Backup Strategy

Financial data is irreplaceable. Follow this professional industry standard:

  • 3 Copies of Data: (1) The live app, (2) Local Backup, (3) Remote Sync.
  • 2 Different Formats: Use internal DB format and periodic CSV exports.
  • 1 Offsite Copy: Always keep a copy in a different physical location (WebDAV cloud).

Password Hygiene

Your Master Password is the only key to your data. There is NO "Forgot Password" button (to keep it private).

Best Practice: Use a passphrase of 4 random words (e.g., "blue-mountain-coffee-desk"). It is easy to remember but impossible for computers to guess.

🙋 Frequently Asked Questions

Can the developers see my expenses?
No. The app is open-source and has NO back-end. All processing happens on your device.
Why does the AI need to download models?
To maintain 100% privacy, the "Brain" of the AI must live on your phone. Sending data to the cloud would compromise your privacy.
What is the "Merchant Tracker"?
It's an optional feature to track specific shops/vendors. It helps identify spending patterns and vendor-specific risks.
